Engineering & Infrastructure
In alignment with the City of St. George’s commitment to healthy and responsible growth, the Engineering Department plans and delivers quality public infrastructure, upholds the city’s standards across development and construction, and safeguards the community through proactive stormwater and floodplain management.
The City of St George Engineering Department provides the following services:
Capital Improvement Planning & Projects
Management of planning, design, and construction of publicly funded infrastructure projects including roadways, drainage, bridges, and other public facilities.
Floodplain
Floodplain management involves determining flood zones, maintaining accurate maps, and assisting property owners with flood insurance requirements. It also focuses on protecting people and property by promoting responsible building practices that reduce flood risk and improve community resilience.
Infrastructure and Development
This division is primarily involved in the design review, permitting and construction inspection of the engineering components of private development projects, as well as administering the policies and procedures established for proposed developments throughout the city. Oversee management and activities pertaining to right-of-way (ROW) such as access connections, culvert installations, utility permits and inspections, and land clearing.
Transportation & Traffic
Traffic management and transportation planning, traffic signal construction and operations, neighborhood and school zone safety, road closures, and mobility services. Traffic engineering including the evaluation of stop signs and other traffic evaluation requests
Water Quality
This division monitors water quality through regular inspection and maintenance of the city’s stormwater infrastructure, and serves as the author and administrator of the city’s MS4 permit.
